ABSTRACT

Socially responsible leadership is better endorsed and more effective in cultures that value collective interests across different stakeholder groups, lower power distance, and a vision of social stability. Socially responsible leadership is about institutionalizing behaviors and culture of responsibility, by setting rules, assigning responsibility for those rules, and monitoring them. It offers a democratic, culturally sensitive space where diverse members across different communities are able to productively engage. In cultures that value gender egalitarianism, socially responsible leadership works to mitigate discrimination, allowing both men and women to effectively participate in the labor force and contribute to their families on an equal basis. Socially responsible leadership envisions the potential for generating tremendous fortune by connecting alternative and diverse technological bases across multiple community groups to construct transformative knowledge systems. The values-based approaches to leadership are concerned with the challenges of individual leader-level virtues, morality, authenticity, spirituality, and/or transformational focus.
