ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses that one take stock of impressive successes and set out continuing challenges, what one call the "second generation" of girl's education issues. girl's education has been recognized as a global priority and incorporated into development targets, which has rallied governments, NGOs, foundations, and international organizations. Global policy priorities in girl's education largely focus on equal access to primary education, which has indeed become a success story. Although girl's education has been prioritized as a universal concern, there are major differences in progress among regions and populations. One have laid out a framework of second-generation challenges facing girls today: hotspot regions where girls still cannot access primary education; extremely disadvantaged poor and rural girls who lag behind; unsafe environments that threaten millions of schoolgirls; low-quality learning opportunities; and compromised opportunities to transition to higher education and secure jobs.
