ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the continued expansion of one such effort: the promotion of clean energy entrepreneurship by women. Women's leadership in clean energy technologies such as solar lamps and clean cookstoves provides one of best opportunities to address both energy access and climate change. The chapter explains a critical role by sponsoring the Train the Trainer (TOT) workshops, by facilitating African and Indian women leadership exchanges, and by building broader public awareness of the critical role of women entrepreneurs in the clean energy value chain. The Wangari Maathai Institute's curriculum on 'Sustainable Clean Energy Entrepreneurship' incorporates Green Belt Movement's (GBM) module on transformative leadership. Research abounds to support the role of women entrepreneurs in the energy sector. The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves (GACC) and wPOWER project present two new reasons for hope in a better future achieved through improved technologies and the training of women leaders and entrepreneurs to promote sustainable clean energy.
