ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the use of three data types that include log data, response time, and eye-tracking, for score validation in the next generation assessments. It also discusses the terminology including various uses of these types of data. The chapter addresses data collection, coding, and scoring, followed by a discussion of analysis, validation, and summary. Log data and response times are intertwined as every logged event is associated with a time stamp. As next generation assessments draw on a wider array of technologies, a wider array of input types become available, including biometric and gesture-based input. Response-time data are generally collected alongside the log data as an attribute of each captured action. Eye-tracking has a long history in cognitive psychology, beginning with research on reading, as a means by which attention can be measured as a function of the location, duration, and sequence of eye movements.
