ABSTRACT

Ethical responsibility is one of the basic tenets of any type of research. In this chapter we briefly discuss the origins of formal ethical practices and then dive into the key question, ‘What are the ethical responsibilities of being a practitioner researcher?’ Our discussion based on the question engages with four themes: formal/ informal; the ethics of relationships; consent, confidentiality and transparency; purpose and audience. In conclusion, we recognise that although ethical responsibilities are messy and complex – they are fundamental concerns for all practitioner researchers.
