ABSTRACT

‘It’s easier said than done’ is a common saying and one that is easily recognised and acknowledged in professional practice. Unpacking the saying in relation to professional practice in physical education and youth sport, practitioners often hear talk of aligning their beliefs about teaching/coaching and learning with their actions as teachers/coaches. While many of us say we ‘walk our talk’, several researchers have identified a considerable gap between physical education and youth sport practitioners’ philosophies and beliefs and how these same philosophies and beliefs translate into their work/actions with young people. We shared written personal perspectives on the alignment of beliefs and actions with each other and then engaged in a recorded discussion. Throughout our discussions, and reiterations that followed, we discussed the following questions: (1) How and to what extent am I able to align my beliefs and actions? (2) How important is it for a practitioner researcher to consider this issue using each of the methodologies we consider in the book?
