ABSTRACT

This chapter considers a number of different debates related to inclusive practice using technology, including how technology can be used to support the individual needs of pupils but also how it might contribute to excluding pupils through creating a 'digital divide' or perpetuating stereotypes. It shows, using technology can also raise challenges for inclusion; for example, does the use of technology in schools exclude pupils without access to technology at home or those who lack the skills to use it well? The chapter looks at some of the ways that teachers have used different technologies to reduce exclusion and create a more inclusive learning environment in their schools. It discusses some of the issues of diversity and prejudice raised by technology and concludes by discussing how teachers can develop an inclusive pedagogical approach to the teaching of computing. The chapter considers some of the key issues and debates in inclusive computing and Information Communication Technology (ICT) education.
