ABSTRACT
<abstract>Chapter 3 comprises a brief chronological history of coaching. The chapter includes a discussion of sport in ancient times with more current histories primarily relating to the United Kingdom with some discussion of Australia, Canada and the United States. Furthermore, as much of coaching history is male dominated, the second half of this chapter focuses on a herstory of coaching which draws attention to the underrepresentation of women in the field, their marginalisation and empowerment.</abstract>
