ABSTRACT
Teaching method in England and Wales derived from two different traditions. Primary education, particularly Early Years education (nursery or kindergarten for children aged 4/5 to 8), emerged from a focus on the individual child and development to his or her full potential based upon the precepts of Pestalozzi, Froebel, Montessori and Rachel McMillan. It was child-centred.
