‘How can the Germans honestly be blamed?’: The infiltration of the peace movement

Pacism is an honourable creed. While its understanding of the evils of war is shared by many who nevertheless nd themselves forced by events to take sides in a human conict, its adherents distinguish themselves by a single-minded refusal to countenance war under any circumstances. It has a long history in Britain, from the seventeenth century onwards, with such religious bodies as the Quakers playing a leading role.
