ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on student role, key priorities of higher education and their responsibilities toward the goals of success and quality, their advice on a number of budget issues, but also the additional services many of them seem to require. Then it examines the various components of contemporary student population, with attention above all to the obvious changes in composition challenging but potentially exciting and also to some special student categories that require assessment in relation to larger priorities. The chapter also deals with the student life, its role in student learning but also its budget impact, where some crucial debates must be pursued. By exploring the student needs and student services makes it obvious that there is no disproportionate contribution to budget stability emerging from this source. Budget issues loom large here, but there are also questions about the role of higher education in addressing inequalities again, both old and new-in the student groups will be addressed in it.
