ABSTRACT
FIFA is the international governing body of 209 national soccer, futsal, beach soccer associations. Founded (1904), based in Zurich, Swiss law governs FIFA activities. FIFA is responsible for organizing football’s major international tournaments, notably the globally popular FIFA World Cup. Indeed, for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, FIFA claimed:
• More than 3.2 billion live TV tournament viewers for at least one minute. • More than 620 million live TV final viewers for 20 or more consecutive minutes. • More than 1 billion live TV viewers for some portion of the final. • Estimated final viewer increases versus 2006 finals from 3 to 8 percent.
