ABSTRACT

This conclusion chapter presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book introduces concepts engaging with the ecological challenges of planetary coexistence. It presents 'whole Earth thinking' as a way of understanding and responding to the challenges of planetary coexistence. The approach to whole Earth thinking situates Stephanie Kaza and Gary Snyder in a creative contrast between two groups of thinkers. The book also provides some guidelines for undertaking a path toward ecological wisdom by crossing many disciplinary boundaries. The first group is represented by the geologian Thomas Berry, whose work has been highly influential in the development of the field of religion and ecology and in the articulation of narrative accounts of cosmic, Earth, and human evolution. The second group is represented by the geophilosophers Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari, who are highly influential in diverse fields of inquiry, including areas of philosophy, psychology, critical theory, cultural studies, and postmodernism.
