ABSTRACT
Facedwithagrowingpopulationofpeoplewithdisabilitiesandadvancingyears, designersarefindingagrowingmarketaswellasincreasedlegalpressuretoproduce products,buildings,andexteriorspacesthatareaccessibletoeveryone.The disabilityrightsmovementhasachievedconsiderablesuccessinitsefforttolobbyfor equalcivilandenvironmentalrightsforAmericanswho,untilrecently,havebeen excludedfrombuildingsonthebasisofphysicaldisabilityorextremesofsize.The pendingAmericanswithDisabilitiesAct,whenpromulgated,willrequirethat-in additiontoeducation,governmentprograms,andhousing-publicaccommodations,publictransportationandtelecommunicationsbedesignedandoperatedin suchawaythatpeoplewithdisabilitieshavethesameopportunitiesasothers.
