ABSTRACT
Designdemandshaveshiftedinbuildingtypesacrossthecountryinrecentyears,yet nochangeshavebeenmoredramaticthanthoseinhealth-carefacilities.Today's hospitalsaremorelikehotelsintryingtoprovideawelcomingandcaringenvironmentthatovercomestheapprehension,fear,andtraumaassociatedwithhospital facilities.Moreover,hospitalcaremustdealwiththehorizontalpatientinbedand theverticalpatientwhowalksinfortreatment.Coupledwiththesedemandsisthe needtoprovidepatientswithasmuchindependenceintheircareprocessas possible.Includedinapatient'scareisthelatesttechnologytoassurepromptand completerecovery.Alltheseforcescombinetomakethedesignofhealth-care facilitiesanextremelycomplicated,rapidlychangingprocess.
