ABSTRACT
Safety and security are among the most basic of human needs. They are fundamental to survival in the physical world, and from the dawn of civilization they have found physical expression in architecture, in structures ranging in scale from houses to castles to cities. Safety and security also are fundamental to the maintenance of our psychological integrity, but these needs can inhibit the generation of innovative ideas.
