ABSTRACT
Theoretical construct can be rooted in conceptualization of an idea inductively, generalizing a set of laws into one coherent reasoning and explanation or through deductive reasoning, connecting a set of definitions, axioms, and mathematical data in creating an axiomatic theory. This chapter explains the African theoretical construct for management and organization, the current state of thinking and the framework within which a scientist approaches theory building. It addresses the point of departure between Western and the African points of view. The chapter presents an overview of the existing work on the African diaspora to acknowledge the work others have already completed. It describes other possible pathways to constructing theories in addressing the management and organizational issues in Africa. The chapter discusses nuances of various approaches to theory construction in creating new models and theories to serve management and organizational studies for application to the African context.
