ABSTRACT

A snapshot of schools and workplace settings in the United States provides evidence of the existence of continued social oppression and its adverse effects on groups in society. This chapter reviews literature with the aim of supporting the career and work-related needs of the United States' racially and ethnically diverse populations to better understand effective and promising practices. It provides an overview of the educational and work-related experiences of racially and ethnically diverse groups in the United States. The chapter explores the effects of racially-biased structures, practices, and institutions on the key academic and work-related outcomes among workers of colour in the United States. It reviews evidenced-based career and workforce interventions designed for racially/ethnically diverse populations, and based on this review. It highlights critical ingredients in career interventions targeting these groups and offers recommendations for enhancing the delivery of interventions to influence the work-related outcomes of members from diverse racial/ethnic groups.
