ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on how career development researchers can translate the career development knowledge base for practitioners and policy makers. It discusses the role of career development researchers in policy. The chapter provides an adapted framework to help researchers design and implement studies to inform public policy using a "knowledge to action" framework (K2A) which consists of three phases: research; translation; and institutionalization. According to Wilson et al. the translation phase of the K2A model is concerned with the processes that will ensure that evidence-based programs, practices, and policies can achieve widespread implementation. The chapter reviews that federal agencies like the US Departments of Labour and Education outlines their need for evidence that is easily accessible and understandable to help them make decisions about what types of programs work in different contexts for diverse populations. Shaping evidence-based practice in ways that advocate for career and workforce development policies requires career development researchers to collaborate with organizations, agencies, and communities.
