ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book provides some summary reflections, caveats, cautionary remarks, and comments on the field. It outlines what the author believes to be the major traditions influencing much of qualitative research on work and organizations in contemporary society. The book focuses on the importance of becoming familiar with any tradition in its entirety for the purpose of conducting high-quality research. In speaking about the different research traditions, the book addresses two interrelated questions: the first is, how closely should one follow a particular tradition? And the second is, does working in any tradition curtail a researcher's own originality and imagination? In most academic fields, research quality is guaranteed by external reviewers who are typically knowledgeable experts in relevant areas. The book also addresses the following question: What does the future of qualitative research look like?.
