ABSTRACT

Novice and journeyman psychoanalysts2 are often challenged when working with patients who were victims of violent trauma (including sexual abuse) during childhood as well as those suffering with an extreme dissociative disorder. These psychoanalysts often enter the field with only a rudimentary understanding of what to expect when working with these patients. The patient’s phenomenological presentation during the course of treatment is unique, often requiring additional training and supervision for the psychoanalyst.
