ABSTRACT

The invitation from Richard Gartner to write a chapter was enticing. He wrote, “You can feel free to fashion your chapter any way that works for you (within reason!)… I am inviting you to make your reflections as personal and visceral as you are comfortable with.” My response was visceral: on one hand, I was excited at the opportunity to write something personal and to choose a topic that is meaningful to me as it relates to countertrauma and counterresilience. On the other hand, it touched on my current sense of depletion: Do I want to take this ‘opportunity’ and devote the hours that it will require?
