ABSTRACT

Chapter 12 focuses on crime mapping. Crime mapping is an essential aspect of crime analysis work, but can be an expensive tool for agencies. This chapter provides a background on crime mapping. There is a brief introduction to mapping data types with examples of common data sources utilized by analysts. The chapter also discusses different GIS software available for crime analysts. Finally, the chapter discusses a number of different mapping subtopics related to different spatial analyses (e.g. buffers and distance-to-crime).
