ABSTRACT
Retrospective techniques use data from the past to show where crime has occurred. Hot spot analyses are some of the most common retrospective techniques in crime analysis. This chapter discusses retrospective techniques and how they are used in research and in police agencies. It also addresses how the insights from identifying hot spots can assist in various types of policing efforts.
