ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on predictive analytical techniques. The chapter begins by tracing the development of predictive analysis techniques through hot spot analyses. The chapter then provides an overview of one predictive analysis program, called Risk Terrain Modeling, along with an example of the process of building a risk terrain model and how to interpret the findings. This is followed by a discussion on Conjunctive Analysis of Risk Factor Configurations. CARFC can be used to supplement the findings of predictive analysis techniques to identify dominant behavior settings where crime is expected to occur in the future. The output of predictive analyses fit within an ACTION framework and risk-based policing approach
