ABSTRACT
Equestrian sport has three Olympic disciplines: dressage, showjumping and eventing, of which only dressage is also a Paralympic discipline. Historically a competition for commissioned military offi cers to demonstrate the eff ective training of their battle steeds, the Olympic dressage competition became open to non-military riders in 1952.
