ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the types of research sources for the advertising and public relations professional. It talks about the different industry associations that represent the advertising and public relations business. The chapter also focuses on industry and academic media sources, and industry thought leaders. Industry organizations offer a terrific resource for anyone wanting to know more about advertising or public relations. The two advertising industry weekly news publications are Advertising Age and Adweek. Advertising Age takes a balanced view of advertiser and advertising agency while Adweek is geared more toward the advertising agency. Admap is a monthly publication that acts as a bridge between industry and aca-demia. Admap is the publication of the World Advertising Research Center (WARC). There are two types of government resources that are important for the advertising and public relations industry. The first is government agencies that provide federal regulation of advertising and the second is government agencies that provide information that is beneficial for marketing.
