ABSTRACT

The chapter focuses on collective goals and actions, giving people involved in public affairs an opportunity to imagine what the future could be like. It explores on the public professional's contribution to transparency in the creation and implementation of policies and programs. There are many more connected with specific occupational specializations, such as law enforcement, environmental protection, and social services. In Johnson and Svara's description, social equity addresses the possibilities all people have to improve their lives and succeed in achieving their goals, and it seeks to remove barriers that make this more difficult. The resistance reflects the cultural values of individualism and dislike of government, and for some it reflects judgments about people who different. This can shape preferences about laws, policies, and programs affecting the lives of millions of people. Participativeness, representativeness, transparency, and social equity helps to draw together the value themes of democracy, pluralism, imagination, fairness, empathy discussed in Public Service Values.
