ABSTRACT

In this chapter we first show you several conceptual models of relationships that can be tested using the Samouel’s databases. These conceptual models will help you

1. Understand how to represent hypothesized relationships for testing 2. Clarify the difference between sample statistics and population parameters 3. Describe how to choose appropriate statistical techniques to test hypotheses 4. Explain when and how to use a t-test, ANOVA (analysis of variance), and

chi square to examine hypotheses

to better understand how relationships in any type of business research can be tested using statistics. Next we review and explain the relationship between sample statistics and population parameters as well as how to select the appropriate statistical test. We then cover several univariate and bivariate statistics used to test hypotheses. The software package SPSS® is used to illustrate hypothesis testing.
