ABSTRACT

Research projects sometimes include data reduction or simplification in their objectives. In such cases, we use statistical techniques that do not designate variables as either dependent or independent. Rather, they analyze only the dependent variables or only the independent variables. The two techniques appropriate in these situations are factor analysis and cluster analysis. The first technique we cover in this chapter is factor analysis. It is used for data summarization. The second technique discussed, cluster analysis, can be used to identify homogeneous subgroups of the total sample.
