ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses on the historicize the notion of imperialism in the globalized 21st century. It investigates whether the recent growth of American-based platforms has resulted in a change to the norm of the imperialism thesis by analyzing the evolutionary nature of imperialism, such as Lenin's imperialism, cultural imperialism, information imperialism, and platform imperialism. It explores to document the evolution of imperialism theories so that one can make a contribution to the platform imperialism discourses as a form of new imperialism. The chapter focuses on the continuing debates on imperialism, in particular the power relations between the west and the east because the historical development of imperialism theory has been influenced by the tension between great powers, including both nation-states and transnational corporations in these two areas, as Lenin emphasized. The chapter examines the evolutionary development of various notions of imperialism towards platform imperialism.
