ABSTRACT

Initiatives have come and gone as part of different national drives, but the fundamental principle of assessment for learning in classroom remains and is present in all phases of education and across all subjects, providing a common ground for progress, involving teachers, pupils, parents and governors. Teacher professional development is essential to improving pupil performance and achievement, contributing to a better national economy. When conduct a Quality assurance (QA) process, first ensure that an individual and staff are clear on the focus of that QA. It is important that, as part of the QA process whether as individual staff observations or department reviews an action plan is produced which sets clear targets, success criteria and a timeline for monitoring. There is an initiative that is outlined in detail on the Lesson Study UK website www.lessonstudy.co.uk, which talks about slowing down the observation or learning process by focusing only on three students during the lesson observation.
