ABSTRACT
Language plays a large role in the formation of national identity, and learning a language offers unique insights into the history and culture of the people who speak it. Languages are constantly changing, and by examining the changes a language undergoes one can also learn about changes within the society that speaks that language. In recent years the technologies enabling globalization, particularly the Internet, have added new and interesting developments to languages and their roles in culture, trade, and beyond.
