ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the definition of terms such as career development, career planning and career management. It then proceeds to the importance of career development and career success. This chapter discusses the career planning and career management as components of career development. It looks at career theories, and the role of life and career stages in career development. Career management, the other subset of career development, focuses on plans and activities of the organization. From the perspective of the organization, career development is the process of guiding the placement, movement and growth of employees through assessment, planned training activities and planned job assignments. Midcareer, which corresponds with the life stage of middle adulthood. Minnesota theory of work adjustment refers to the process by which an individual seeks to achieve and maintain correspondence with the work environment. Person-environment fit refers to the degree of congruence between workers and their environments. Human resource planning is the basis of human resource management.
