ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the reader to induction, learning and development in organizations. The first section focuses on the definition of terms. The chapter then proceeds to induction (i.e. the introduction of new employees to an organization). We look at the objectives of induction, investigate who should be responsible for induction, focus on the content of an induction programme, and describe how induction programmes can be evaluated. The third section focuses on training and development of employees. We focus on the goals of training and the training cycle (i.e. needs assessment, the development and presentation of training programmes, and the evaluation of training programmes).
