ABSTRACT

This chapter talks about the induction, learning and development in organizations. It discusses the objectives of induction, investigate who should be responsible for induction, focus on the content of an induction programme, and describe how induction programmes can be evaluated. It then proceeds to induction: the introduction of new employees to an organization. It describes on training and development of employees. It discusses on the goals of training and the training cycle: needs assessment, the development and presentation of training programmes, and the evaluation of training programmes. Provide training if the performance analysis indicates that knowledge, skills or attitudes need to be altered. The focus is on learning through reframing the workplace problems, self-determined development, unfreezing barriers to learning and understanding what it means to be a learning organization. Apprentice training is a combination of on-site and off-site training. The development and empowerment process has overtaken the training event in organizations.
