ABSTRACT

This chapter utilises the activity theory approaches with a focus on the concept of the mediation effects of the two artifacts, namely, the roles of the consultants and the leadership styles in a distributed model in the activity systems. The change in responsibility and role of each member in the object-oriented unit of activity, such as teamwork or leadership activities, assumes changes in the power structure and division of labor in the team. Therefore, the change in power and division of labor, that is, the mode of control, entails changes in discourse features of interactions within the team. Teacher participation in curriculum decision making appears to have received universal consensus in the context of policy change toward decentralization in many developed and developing countries. The innovation project manipulated the formation of the Curriculum Development Teams and rotation of leadership to create potential tensions and contradictions among members.
