ABSTRACT

This chapter presents authors' reflections on the process of implementation. It illustrates the concept of the local economy and its reconstruction. The chapter then describes the cases of plum processing in Qinhe and millet farming in Liqiu. It attempts to explore how environmentally friendly farming ignites the local economy, cooperation among villagers in their daily lives and labor, and how the local economy is embedded in the social structure. The Taiwan Rural Front (TRF) initiated discussions in the local communities through specific cases. In addition, together with community residents, the TRF explored the practice of eco-agriculture. The hardest challenge for the local economy is market development. Farmers are always worried about finding the market, and whether they have produced too many processed products. In order to create possibilities for a plural local economy and to keep the surplus value, the TRF suggested that they develop a local processing plant on a small scale.
