ABSTRACT
Despite affirmative action policies that many selective institutions use to assemble a diverse student body, a longitudinal study conducted by Posselt, Jaquette, Bielby, and Bastedo (2012) reveals that Latinas/os’ odds of enrolling in a selective college have declined over time compared to their White and Asian American peers. In addition, selective colleges and universities appear to have made little progress in enrolling low-income students (Astin & Oseguera, 2004), simultaneously calling into question whether these institutions provide equitable opportunities for mobility.
