ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a number of stories from dance graduates, who have shared their experience of completing the dissertation. Educators often aim for learning experiences to be transformative, particularly with large and extended learning opportunities such as the dissertation. Amy Guilliatt dissertation idea was to look into learning styles and teaching methods within practical dance classes to investigate whether there was a relationship between the two, especially to see if a student's learning style was adaptable to change to the teaching method used by the teacher. When deciding on an idea for Anna-Lise Marie Hearn's dissertation, she was fascinated by the choreographic processes of William Forsythe, and in particular his 'Improvisation Technologies: A tool for the analytical dance eye', which breaks down the essential principles of his motional language. Naomi Barber dissertation investigated the relationship between the then current UK government and community dance.
