We have looked at the ways in which psychoanalysis can be useful in communitybased work, and we have noted the ways that a wider community involvement can be helpful to psychoanalysis and psychoanalysts. We have considered the limitations in how culture is dealt with in the literature of psychoanalysis and in the literature deriving from community-based work. Now, we will turn to the interaction among these three factors. How does cultural context modify the way psychoanalysis shows up at a given time and place? How does culture modify the form community-based work takes?
