ABSTRACT
Commemoration: an act of remembrance involving major challenges On the occasion of the official opening, in 2014, of the major commemorative programme relating to the two world conflicts of the twentieth century, the French president reminded us that ‘commemorating means knowing where we come from, so as to better comprehend what unites and brings us together as a nation; our nation’ (Hollande, 2013). The various commemorations organised each year in France address several major challenges.
