ABSTRACT

Among e-government theorists, accountability and transparency issues are at the forefront of critical relevance concerning delivery of services and citizen participation. Shared information technology (IT) services employed by federal and municipal governments are considered crucial in the continual development of e-government and a pertinent tool for governments to create citizen participation in the process. The objective of this chapter is to examine the impact of e-government on the lifestyles of citizens and shared IT services in Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Additionally, issues of accountability and transparency in the context of shared services and e-government are evaluated. Each country—Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States—has been analyzed, and their issues, problems, and solutions are discussed in the chapter.
