ABSTRACT

A single flash as the only light source typically produces unattractive images. A pop-up flash or a single flash mounted on the camera produces few visible shadows because most of the shadowing falls directly behind that which caused them. A slave trigger is an electro-optical device that triggers a remote flash when the slave is activated by a burst of light from a master flash. Flash stands that allow independent movements of the three legs are particularly good on uneven ground and hillsides. When using wireless multiple flash, it is possible to assign flashes to various groups. Nearly everything about flash photography is quite easy, except flash ratios. Dedicated flash systems using wireless controls typically allow flash ratios to be modified without moving the flashes merely by pushing a few buttons on the flashes or using a menu selection. The accessory market teems with gizmos and widgets for modifying the light emitted by flash units.
