ABSTRACT

Many photography writers introduce light by discussing the roots of the word "photography" and discuss light as a critical component. Beginning photographers are obsessed with the quantity of light available, they do not remember to consider the importance of light quality and direction, two other major characteristics of light. Being able to produce appreciably better images at higher ISOs in lower light results in not being as dependent on ambient light. Direction of light are Front light, Backlight and Sidelight. Ambient light under heavy cloud cover is highly diffused and low in contrast. Light modifying translucent diffusers, readily available and often used for smaller subjects, also produce lowered contrast. The term "contrast" is used by photographers to describe differences in tonalities and differences in color. Always evaluate how the color, contrast, and direction of light impacts the image. Using gorgeous ambient light or modifying the ambient light with flash is crucial to shooting stunning images.
