ABSTRACT

This chapter provides two case studies. The first study focuses on the impact of a video intervention as it was delivered to the ward staff of an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and examines group efficacy and learning processes as part of the empowerment model. The second study reportes the key themes of a climate change discussion as it appeared in an online user comment thread. It also demonstrates how corpus-driven methods allow to process large datasets and extract key themes to make cross-case comparisons. In the vedio interaction guidance (VIG) intervention shows how important it was to focus the critical reflection towards a specific feature of the interaction, and in the faculty of the ICU ward. The semantic annotation function of the WMatrix corpus analysis tool is able to objectively identify the key themes or topicality of the discussion thread. It examines the data, structured around the following topics: reciprocity, topicality, and argumentation, focusing on questions, incivility and alternative viewpoints.
