ABSTRACT

Bill Irwin born in Santa Monica, after graduating from Ringling Bros Clown College, performed with the Pickle Family Circus for three years. He is a Guggenheim and MacArthur fellow, the winner of many additional awards for his work on stage and screen, and an esteemed director and choreographer for good measure. David Shiner born in Boston 1953 his clown career on the streets of Boulder, Colorado, and Paris he developed his signature style based on wildly unpredictable interactions with his audience. He teaches regularly at the Theater Akademie Irwin and Shiner met in the early 90s on the set of Silent Tongue. The production was showered with awards, including a special Tony Award for Live Theatrical Presentation in 1999, a Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience, and an Outer Critics Circle Special Achievement Award. Both independently and as a double act, Irwin and Shiner are widely regarded as the two preeminent American clowns of their era.
