ABSTRACT

Nola Rae, after training at the Royal Ballet School in London, turned to mime, studying with Marcel Marceau. Rae blended clown, mime, and puppetry in full-length solo shows including Elizabeth's Last Stand and Exit Napoleon Pursued By Rabbits. The London International Mime Festival with Joseph Seelig, received the Charlie Rivel Award for Clowning, and inducted into the Clown Hall of Fame. In 2008, Rae was awarded a Most Excellent Order of the British Empire by the Queen. A clown and a mime and a comedian hold up a mirror to the audience as it were, and the audience will see their ridiculous selves mirrored by the clown. The clown is very powerful. Do not dismiss the clown as actually somebody who has no power. The clown has a huge amount of power. Lots of people do not like mime because they have seen it done badly.
