ABSTRACT

Body satisfaction affects both our self-esteem and our relationships. Factors other than just body type influence the development of our personalities. Mood and body are intertwined. Height and weight are also key body appearance factors affecting both our personal and professional lives. Gestures enable to illustrate or modify the meaning of our words. One can classify gestures according to those that accompany speech, known as illustrators, and those that occur in the absence of speech, referred to as emblems. In addition to these, they also have gestures that function as affect displays, regulators, and adaptors. Affect displays are movements of the face, hands, or body that communicate emotional meaning. Regulators help control or monitor the flow of interaction. A handshake is a first-impression gesture. A palm-down handshake indicates a desire to take control. The crossed-arm, self-hug gesture also is a means of comforting oneself.
