ABSTRACT

This chapter offers a qualitative methodology, especially within the framework of grounded theory, explaining a complex phenomenon like democratization in the Arab setting. In addition to the theoretic framework that grounded theory gave qualitative researchers, it also offered practical strategies for directing, managing and streamlining data collection and analysis. It presents the interviews of twenty members like senior management, editorial staff and journalists of Al Jazeera. The chapter provides practical strategies for directing, managing and streamlining data collection and analysis. The phenomenal interest in Al Jazeera since its launch in 1996 has generated a huge amount of data in different formats and of varying degrees of importance for academic research. Much of these data has been collected and analyzed, but a lot remains unprocessed, especially from a political science perspective. Considering the amount of literature on Al Jazeera and its leading role in revolutionizing the Arab media landscape, very little has been written on the political implications of these changes.
